The Kingdom of Swaziland
Swaziland is a beautiful tiny kingdom surrounded by South Africa to the north, south and west and Mozambique to the east. The traditional society of the Swazi is part of the attraction of the country and the many colourful ceremonies and characteristics of the people prove fascinating.
The Ezulwini Valley
The Ezulwini Valley situated between Mbabane, the capital,
and Manzini, the main commercial centre, is the central focus
of the nation. The green hills and mountains surrounding,
overshadow the country's Parliament and Royal Palace. Luxury
five star international hotels rub shoulders with humble
traditional residences and the scene is very African. Reilly's
Rocky Hilltop Lodge is ideal for exploring the area and enjoying
the wildlife in the Mlilwane wildlife sanctuary in the valley.
From The Malolotja to The Lebombo Mountians
The green mountains of Malolotja, which are often mantled in
mist are spectacular and the best way to explore this region
and the broad Usutu River valley, is on horseback. Hawane
Village and Stables provide the perfect base for activities
in this area. The green hills and mountains of the west give
way to a more rugged and hot landscape as you move east and
the eastern area of the country, under the bulk of the Lebombo
Mountains, is savanna and bushveld and the the location of
Swaziland's premier wildlife reserves such as Royal Hlane,
Mlawula and Mkhaya.
Travelling
Swaziland's road network is good and it is easy to access most
areas in the country. Regional air access is via Johannesburg
(South Africa), Maputo (Mozambique), Maseru (Lesotho) and
Harare (Zimbabwe).
