De Hoop Nature Reserve is situated just three hours’ drive from
Cape Town on the world-renowned Garden and Whale Routes. The 36 000
hectares of De Hoop conservation area is a World Heritage Site
comprising rich biodiversity and by over 70 kilometres of pristine
coastline.
The Opstal Manor House is a beautiful original home, which has been
restored to its former glory. The house accommodates 6 people in 3
en suite bedrooms and offers a fully catered lodge experience. The
Fig Tree Restaurant serves three meals a day as well as teas and
coffees and snacks throughout the day. Picnic baskets are available
for all day excursions into the park.
The Opstal area is a central base from which to explore the reserve.
De Hoop offers a complete and diverse range of activities and
experiences. As a protected Marine Reserve, De Hoop offers one of
the best and most accessible locations to view whales in the world.
The diversity of eco-systems from the coast, sand dunes, rare fynbos
plants, wetlands and the Potberg Mountains is enthralling to nature
lovers. De Hoop offers great opportunities for whale watching (including
the multi-day Whale trail), birding, hiking various day walks, mountain
biking along the many gravel roads, horse riding or scenic game drives.
Opstal also has a tennis court, swimming pool and a boules courtyard.
Alternatively, lazing on the beach or snorkelling in one of the many
turquoise rock pools is simply another way to pass a rewarding day.
