Located close to Hermanus, en-route to the Garden Route, is South
Africa’s best-kept secret. The Grootbos Nature Reserve is 1200
hectares of pure Western Cape wilderness. The fynbos clad hills
overlooking Walker Bay boast magnificent views of Cape Hangklip,
Cape Point and Cape Aghullas. Here nature will enchant you at every
turn, fynbos - the most botanically prolific yet tiniest of the
world’s floral kingdoms, mystical milkwood forests, ancient
tropical rain forests, fascinating fauna and a marine life that enthrals.
From July to December the Southern Right Whale migrates from Antarctica
to the Southern Cape coast to give birth. Walker Bay provides one of the
best vantage points to witness this event.
The pristine coastline is a marine biologist’s dream with long beaches,
small, protected bays and fascinating coastal formations, providing a
treasure trove of bird and sea life.

Grootbos accommodates twenty people in ten cottages built from locally
hewn stone and timber. Each room has an en-suite bathroom, fireplace and
lounge with a spacious sundeck boasting magnificent views of the bay.
The lodge provides two substantial meals a day with the restaurant specialising
in the preparation of superb local seafood.
